EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING SUMMARY - December 19, 2011

Following an Executive Session meeting at 5:30 p.m. a quorum of Advisory Board Members plus both Executive Directors met for the Executive Board Meeting at 6:00 p.m. Opening procedures were conducted and the Minutes from the prior month were approved. A Conflict of Interest Statement Affirmation Form was completed by each Board Member according to required procedure. The Financial Statements for November were approved. The November donation was approved for Carlisle Christian Academy.

Two new business items were scheduled early for recommendation and approval including the vote to approve Jack Culp to the Advisory Board as Facilities Advisor and the vote to accept Thomas Markley’s formal resignation.

Several very exciting meetings were held at 300 East Park Drive during the past month. The owner’s of the building made a visit culminating in their approval and desire to help the school obtain the building. They also hosted a tour of the building at 330 East Park Drive, adjacent to 300 East Park Drive, which they also own. This building could provide opportunity to offer mechanical programs such as Automotive Technology, Auto Body and Repair, Diesel Technology, and Marine Technology. Several meetings and tours were held with the Dauphin County Commissioner’s Office, all ending with encouragement and indication of possible support that may be obtained. The Vice-President/Senior Commercial Loan Officer and an associate from a local banking institution met to evaluate the ministry project and determined that the school, although lacking severely in current financial backing, is a feasible venture and they are willing to walk along beside us to accomplish its establishment. Additionally, there were several large area Churches whose Pastoral Staffs have visited, with others on the calendar to visit.  Christian School Administrators have also made personal visits to the building engaging in a tour and meeting. One area school Headmaster is interested in pursuing a possible partnership to establish a Christian academic school within the building to serve the vocational students that would seek this type of provision for fulfilling academic requirements. There have been numerous individual visitors and guests also showing up to tour the building and hear about the goals of the school, all leaving with a new sense of excitement for the ministry.

Board Members and other volunteers serving Pathways have accepted invitations to participate in meetings and tours. Two Board Members visited at Dayspring Christian Academy and feel confident that some kind of successful partnership can be established. The Administrators from Dayspring are planning to visit Pathways at the building after the new year. Five representatives from Pathways attended a Safe Schools Meeting at Milton Hershey School and are actively participating in the preparation of the Safe School Plan for Pathways Tech. Representatives from the Board are planning to attend upcoming events including training sessions at Lancaster Bible College, the upcoming ACSI Administrator and Board Member Conference in Lancaster, and CEO 2012 Christian Education Options Expo to be held in March at the Hershey Lodge.

Several productive sessions have been held with the law firm of Mette, Evans and Woodside who are now representing Pathways. They are currently finalizing the school’s Letter of Intent pursuing the building.  They have been instrumental in introducing our ministry to important financial institutions. They have also reviewed the revised school Bylaws and have provided recommendations regarding format, consistency, clarity and completeness. The new Bylaws were approved at the meeting with provision to adapt these recommendations.

A lot of work has been accomplished by volunteers over the past two months at the building. Updates have been made to the drafted layout as new areas are developed. Most of the administrative offices have been completed including the Adult Education Office area. The staff break room has been painted and set up and a training and staff meeting room has been set up but needs painted.  Vocational program areas are now being targeted. Culinary Arts has completed the formal Fine Dining Area and food storage area but needs the dishroom and the student lab completed and equipped; Criminal Justice and EMT are beginning painting and set-up; Medical Billing and Coding is being transformed into a classroom area; Video and Media Arts has begun planning and preparation; the Health Occupations suite has obtained a nicely painted mock Drs. Office; Computer Systems and Business Technology will begin to emerge into a classroom area as planning is moving forward to outline the classroom walls and set up the classroom layout of desks and furnishings.

 Initiatives and Financial Outlook

Prayer Meetings are scheduled for every Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the building in the Administrative Conference Room and are open to all. Grants are being pursued and positive feedback has been received. Pilot Programs are in discussion and are planned to be offered in the Spring. An Open House will be held in the Spring. Pathways has partnered with NAC to provide convenience in monthly giving through electronic funds transfer. Cubicles and excess furniture will be offered for sale. Those interested should contact Pathways Tech in order to be placed on a list when these items are available for sale.

Volunteers and volunteer groups are needed to help clear and set up program areas. Financial support is needed, especially monthly pledge support.  Pathways leadership will continue to trust in God for provision and guidance.

The next Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 16, 2012.

An Information Meeting open to the public was held in the Culinary Arts Fine Dining Area at 7:15 p.m. following the Board Meeting. Fellowship and light refreshments were enjoyed. A tour of the facilities and an update on the status and progress of the school was presented.
