We live in a rapidly changing world full of information and colorful images. There is an overwhelming demand for artists with fresh ideas, new perspectives, creativity, bold expression, and  innovative designs.  This course is designed to teach art fundamentals and principles. However, this course will also challenge each individual student to discover and develop the special God-given purpose and direction for his or her life by developing and expanding those artistic gifts that each has been given. Everyone is unique and everyone has a God-given talent. Through this program, our goal is to unlock and release these talents to the glory and honor of God.

This course is designed to teach fundamental art skills, basic principles of design and color, and principles of typography. Students will complete a portfolio and a gallery presentation.

Students will be required to integrate many academic skills as they work on art projects.  Math is essential for the graphic industry standards-measuring. Spelling and Communication are extremely important when using words and making sentences that are incorporated as part of the layout and design of an illustration or graphic art design. Geography and History are used when doing research for an art project involving a foreign country or an historical event. Science and research are necessary to produce accurate representations of people, animals, plants, or anything in nature. Reading comprehension is essential for following directions. Communication and Presentation skills will be enhanced as students present and creatively explain productions.

Potential Instructor:  MICHELE KEMBERLING

Michele has been a free-lance artist for 28 years, painting, illustrating and designing nearly 100 pieces of professional artwork by hand as well as through computer graphic design.  Michele has an Associate’s Degree in Commercial Art from H.A.C.C., and also certification from a two-year program at “Art Instruction Schools” in Minnesota.  Michele is excited about the opportunity to pass on her knowledge, skills, and expertise to her students who will become the artists and designers of the future.
